PARTⅠ

WRITING THE NOTES -

  • The different notebook technique. This technique is highly effective, I also mentioned it in my study techniques article, which you can read through this link -

Different notebook notes process -

Basically, in this technique you keep two different notebooks, one for school and one for home. During a lecture, you use the school notebook to write rough, messy notes, jotting down everything your professor tells you. This includes miniscule details, facts and other tiny items. Once at home, you take the school notebook and write the school notes in your home notebook, this time much more neatly. In the home notebook, you can decorate your notes and make them pretty. And you will use the home notebook notes for exams.

This is a highly efficient method, and I really suggest you use it!

  • A4 sheet technique. This is also a technique I listed in the above given article. It is a good idea for notetaking, and I recommend this one greatly.

A4 sheet notes process -

In this technique, you take an A4 sheet and run a vertical line down it's left side, leaving a small but enough space on the left on the line, and a larger one on its right side. You will write detailed explanations of your topic on the right side, and then you will summarize those long explanations into shorter statements on the left side. For example, when writing notes on mitosis, you will write the whole process on the right side, and just give a heading of 'mitosis' or a statement shortening the process of mitosis on the left side.

This technique will help you learn different topics much better in one pack of notes, since you will pinpoint easily where each different topic is.

  • The textbook technique. This technique is something which really works out for me, and it's original.

Textbook notes process -

Using this tip, you will highlight important definitions, details and other significant parts. You will put brackets around paragraphs which hold a set of related information, and will write little notes to signify beginnings of new topics among the text. Using the instructions you wrote yourself on your textbook, you will then transform this info in notes, which will give you time to concentrate during class and write notes during leisure time.

  • The recording technique. Chance is, your professor prefers lectures instead of textbook reading. In this situation, recording the lectures can be helpful.

Recording notes process -

Record the lecture during class, and focus on what your professor is saying. Once home, play this lecture and write notes according to it. You can pause, replay, stop the recording Youcan also edit the notes after the lecture. Editing includes amplifying, cutting and highlighting the sound. If you choose to edit it, you can do so with these sites and apps -

I prefer the textbook technique more to the recording technique, mostly because we do a lot of reading in class, but you should do what works best for you!

  • Writing the notes. When writing the notes, I recommend highlighting or using a different pen for important parts of text, and putting quotation marks when writing definitions. Using bullets, arrows or other symbols when writing any sort of list can be helpful. You can use post-its and arrows to pinpoint info related to any given part of text, or just use brackets. Making diagrams is good, and you should just make boxes, shapes or use post its for information not very much related to a give set of text, but important nonetheless.

  • Typing technique. If you like typing, then I suggest you use any app with different features for efficient notetaking. There are many apps that let you highlight, bold, and apply needed features to your text, and supply symbols, shapes and other casual features you need. Some apps also help you make diagrams. Use any app that comes with these combined features, because using a different app for a different task can be very time consuming.

Note typing apps -

Different apps correspond with different computers and phones, but Microsoft Word, Microsoft Evernote and Microsoft OneNote are the best for web users. I suggest writing notes on IPads and Tablets, because they are the electronic devices which are easiest to write and draw diagrams on (Most popular studyblrs use goodnotesapp, if you were wondering.) However, there are many good apps for computers and mobile phones as well. Here are the best apps -

I hope these techniques are helpful for you! Just write your notes in any way which makes them easy to read, neat, efficient and packed with all your exam material effectively!

PARTⅡ

BEAUTIFYING THE NOTES -

Firstly, I would like to sort this out that your notes do not need to be studyblr-esque. What is important is that they are readable and come by helpful in tests and exams. But, if you want to write studyblr pretty notes, then I have a few tips.

book and college image pens, studying, and studyblr image
  • Practice handwriting. In no way is it important that you should have beautiful handwriting to write beautiful notes, but most students want their notes to be just like the ones on tumblr with unobtainable handwriting. Your own handwriting is pretty, but if you want to change it -

1. Get a font sheet. There are many ways to get pretty fonts. Choose the font you would prefer your writing to be like, then either you can print out that font or just buy a handwriting practicing notebook. You can take an empty notebook and ask someone with your preferred handwriting to write a few lines in it, but the easiest way is to print font sheets from the internet.

2. Practice regularly. Now that you have a sheet containing your future handwriting, you must get to work. Try to write 4 or 5 repititive statements everyday, and try to instil this handwriting in place of your normal handwriting whenever you hand write something. The most significant thing you must subject yourself onto everyday is practicing. Don't give up, just keep practicing. Motivate yourself with the thoughts of your future handwriting and how beautiful notes will look in it. Practice until you have changed your handwriting, and even then you must practice a little everyday, so as to not lose the feeling of it and make it permanent.

  • Use fonts intelligently. Do not use cursive for one statement, blocks for another and rounded words for the third. I suggest only using two types of fonts - one your title font, which can be cursive, blockish and bold, or any other style you like, and the other one your text one, which will be your casual handwriting, however it is. If you have cursive handwriting, then write your title in bold blocks, but if you have rounded or straight handwriting, then use cursive for the title. This immediately makes your notes look neat and elegant.

  • Use colours intelligently. Instead of writing the whole of your one piece of notes with a combination of 10 different coloured pens, it's better to use 2 or 3 different pens in the least. Preferably, you should use a colour you like for your titles, headings and important text, along with a classic black for the body text. This is how most students and studyblrs write their notes, and it will also make learning by notes easier, since the important info will be highlighted by being written in a different colour, and will be more significant among the mass of black letters.

  • Use symbols. There are many kinds of symbols, like bullets, hearts, stars, arrows, brackets etc. Each type of a symbol has a further wide array of styles with it, such as different types of arrows and brackets. Try to use these symbols in place of dots or numbers, and even make missed out information pretty with designed arrows. Use any kind of thought bubble you like for facts, and list items in a listing with stars or hearts. Here are the kinds of dingbats you can use -

  • Use extras. By 'extras', I mean diagrams, post its, tables, formulas and objects other than text. To add extras efficiently, I suggest you to use them only when they are needed. For example, write formulas in math notes, and make diagrams for biology ones. Make tables for chemistry notes, and put together important but small bits of information with post its, preferably in the colour of your title pen's colour (mentioned above.) These little things will make your notes thousand times more effective and pretty.

Lastly, here is some notespiration!
